HAIR GROWTH CYCLES VS. REGROWTH

Hair grows in three stages. The first stage is called Anagen. Anagen is the early production phase of the hair cycle in a follicle. The second stage is Catagen. This stage is the brief transititional phase between growth and inactive stage of a follicle. The final stage is called Telogen. Telogen is the resting phase of hair cycle in a follicle.

The electrologist cannot accurately predict these stages. The hair being treated may be in any given stage. Permanent cellular destruction in the follicle will be accomplished only when the entire hair growth cycle has been destroyed.

STERILIZATION STANDARDS
The American Electrology Association, with the assistance of the Center for Disease Control, has developed national Infection Control standards for sterilization of all electrology instruments which have had patient contact. This office not only adheres to these standards, but also has chosen to use pre-sterilized, disposable probes. Any questions about sterilization should be directed to Mrs. Bernstein.

PRE-TREATMENT

  1. The treated hair needs to be at least 1/8" in length
  2. Stop all temporary methods of hair removal a minimum of one week prior to your treatment
  3. If you find that you are sensitive to treatment, take an analgesic such as aspirin, ibuprofen or Tylenol an hour before treatment; stay away from sugar and caffeine.
  4. Schedule treatments before or after the onset of your menstrual cycle.

TREATMENT PROCEDURE
The area to be treated is cleaned using 70% isopropyl alcohol. Then a fine probe is introduced into the follicle, which is a natural opening in the skin, and the germinating cells are destroyed using one of three modules: Electrolysis, Thermolysis or Blend.

Electrolysis uses electrical currents to produce a chemical reaction that destroys hair follicles. Thermolysis uses a high frequency current to produce heat that destroys hair follicles. Finally, Blend is a combination of both electrolysis and thermolysis for destroying hair follicles.

Each patient's treatment is individualized. The modality utilized will depend upon your specific problem, skin type, area to be treated and sensitivity. You will be treated within your comfort zone. Treatments are scheduled to meet your specific needs. The number of treatments varies per patient, depending on causes of hair growth and hair type (vellus or terminal).

POST-TREATMENT

  1. Do cleanse your skin with your normal cleanser
  2. Do apply the recommended cream for proper healing. Do not use any night creams on the treated area
  3. Do not apply make-up for 12 hours
  4. Do not expose the treated areas to the sun or sun beds for three days
  5. If any scabs appear, do not pick or scratch the scabs off the area. These are a normal part of the healing process
  6. Do feel free to call if you wish to discuss your treatment
